2008 - 2009 Audition Excerpts and Information

Auditions for the Symphonic Wind Ensemble are open to ALL UIndy students, and are required for all Music Majors and students receiving Ensemble Grants.

Students who are not Music Majors or Ensemble Grant recipients and want to participate in the Pep Band are not required to audition for that ensemble. The first rehearsal will be on Wednesday, August 27 at 4:00 p.m. in room 109 of the CDFAC.

Symphonic Wind Ensemble auditions will take place in room 109 of the CDFAC during the following times:

• Friday, August 22: 3 p.m. - 7 p.m.
• Saturday, August 23: 12 p.m. - 4 p.m.
• Sunday, August 24: 12 p.m. - 4 p.m.

When you arrive on campus, please sign up for a time on the bulletin board outside room 109. Please try to sign up near someone else to avoid large gaps in the schedule.

Flutists who wish to audition for piccolo should sign up for two audition slots, one for flute and one for piccolo. The same music will be used for both auditions. If you wish to sign out our piccolo for your audition, please contact Dr. Spinazzola.

After the auditions, you will be assigned to the Symphonic Wind Ensemble, Chamber Orchestra, Concert Band, or Pep Band to fulfill your ensemble requirement. These results will be posted at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 24. Rehearsals will begin on the first day of classes.

Your audition will consist of:

1. Major scales (up to four sharps/flats)
2. Sight-reading
