Fall 2009 Audition Information for UIndy Choral Ensembles

Auditions for UIndy Choral Ensembles are open to all students and are required for all Vocal Music Majors, students receiving Choral Ensemble Fellowships, and returning students who wish to participate in a choir. If you are not majoring in music but enjoy singing you should definitely consider joining one of our choral ensembles. Whether you’re an experienced musician, or you’ve never sung in a choir in your life, we have a place for you! Opera Audition Information

Auditions will be held in CDFAC 108 during the following times:

• Friday, August 21: 3:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m
• Saturday, August 22: 12 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.
• Sunday, August 23: 12:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m.
• Opera Auditions: Sunday, August 23: 2:00 - 4:00 p.m.

Please be sure to sign up for a choral ensemble audition time

The sign-up sheet, with individual times, will be posted outside the Music Office (CDFAC 103) during the week before classes begin. Please sign up for a time near someone else to avoid large gaps in the schedule.

If you wish to audition for our upcoming opera production as well, please be sure to sign up for one of the times on Sunday, August 23 between 2:00 and 4:00 p.m. Opera Audition Information

If you wait too long to sign up and find that there are no remaining audition times please add your name to the bottom of one of the audition days.

The auditions are an opportunity for the choral ensemble directors to meet you and hear you sing. We’ll also be curious to find out about your musical training and experience—although neither is necessary—in order to find the ensemble that’s just right for you! If you have solo pieces you’d like to sing for us, please bring them although it’s not necessary. We’ll provide an accompanist.

College credit is available and it can be applied towards your degree!

We have seven choral ensembles to choose from:

• Concert Choir is a mixed group with forty-eight members that performs a wide variety of musical styles ranging from folk songs and spirituals to serious classical works with orchestra. It meets from 3:00 to 3:50 on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.
• Choral Union/Community Chorus is a mixed group of students,
  faculty, staff, and community members. It meets on Sunday evenings from 7:00 to 9:30
• Choral Union/Conducting Lab serves as a laboratory chorus for UIndy Music Department Advanced Choral Conducting students. It meets only in the fall semester, b-weekly on Tuesday evenings.
• Crimson Express is our vocal jazz ensemble. It has between twelve and sixteen members and performs with sound equipment and a band. It meets each Monday and Wednesday from 4:00 to 5:20.
• Schola meets each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 2:00 to 2:50 and is a sixteen voice chamber ensemble specializing in literature from the Renaissance and Baroque as well as other periods.
• Women’s Chorus is open to all students and includes both music majors and non-majors. It meets on Tuesday and Thursday from 4:00 to 4:50 pm.
• Voices of Woprship is our Gospel ensemble and it’s open to all students. It meets each Monday evening from 8:00 to 9:20 pm.
