Choral Union (Community Chorus)

Please note: the University of Indianapolis Choral Union (Community Chorus) — performing the Beethoven Ninth Symphony in November, 2009 — is separate and distinct from the University of Indianapolis Choral Union (Conducting Lab).

The University of Indianapolis Choral Union (Community Chorus) is an ensemble made up of UIndy alumni, faculty, staff, students and community members. Led by UIndy Director of Choral Activities Dr. Paul Krasnovsky, the ensemble is dedicated to the performance of masterworks of the choral/orchestral repertory. In addition, members of Choral Union, joined by UIndy students, faculty, and staff, come together for periodic overseas summer concert tours such as our June, 2007 tour to China and our upcoming June, 2010 tour to the Balkans.

The Choral Union rehearses on Sunday evenings from 7:00 until 9:30 in the Christel DeHaan Fine Arts Center and is open to all interested singers by audition. The 2009 - 2010 season will include a joint performance on November 7 of the Beethoven Ninth Symphony with the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra and the University of Indianapolis Concert Choir. The performance, conducted by ICO Music Director Kirk Trevor, will commemorate the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall.

Spring activities will include preparations for our Concert Tour to the Balkans. Tentative dates for the trip are June 3 through June 13, 2010. Most of the music that we'll be singing during our tour will be featured at our spring concert on April 25. Whether or not you're able to come on the trip, as a member of Choral Union you'll still enjoy singing with us throughout the spring and at our concert in April.

Because the Choral Union is part of the University of Indianapolis, participants will have the opportunity to enroll each semester to receive either graduate or undergraduate college credit. For University of Indianapolis undergraduate students this credit will count towards fulfillment of their fine arts requirement. Enrolling for graduate credit will give public school educators the opportunity to fulfill their requirements for ongoing professional development.
