Chamber Music Institute
July 6-12, 2008
Mission Statement
The Chamber Music Institute provides an opportunity for young
musicians to collaborate in chamber music settings with other
talented students while under the tutelage of professional musicians
and instructors. Chamber Music Institute musicians will be nurtured
to raise their musical awareness in chamber ensembles and to communicate
this through the language of music.
Admission
Participation in the Chamber Music Institute is available to all
piano, string, woodwind, and brass instrumentalists, from entering
freshmen to graduating seniors between the ages of 14 and 18.
Admission to CMI is based on the application, audition tapes/CD/VHS
video/DVD or live audition, and the letter of recommendation,
all to be received before the deadline of May 19, 2008. Student
ensembles already in existence are encouraged to apply as a group.
Live auditions will take place at the University of Indianapolis
on the evening of Monday, May 12, 2008. Applicants will be contacted
concerning audition times two weeks prior to the date if choosing
this option.
Curriculum
Students will be assigned one or more ensembles in which to participate
for the duration of the institute. Additionally, master classes
and ensemble coaching along with individual practice time will
comprise the day. Each student receives one private lesson in
addition to his or her ensemble coaching.
Schedule of Events
A typical day at the Chamber Music Institute will include all
or part of the following: ensemble rehearsals, private lessons,
master classes, practice time, and group free time. A final concert
is to be given in the Ruth Lilly Perfomance Hall at the Christel
DeHaan Fine Arts Center and will feature the participating ensembles.
Additional performances at other Indianapolis locations might
be scheduled, depending on availability of their facilities. Field
trip(s) to hear local perfoming ensembles such as the Indianapolis
Symphony Orchestra in rehearsal or concerts will be scheduled
if available during the dates of the institute.
