Jazz Combo Camp
June 22-26, 2009
There will be an organizational meeting at 6:00 pm on Sunday, June 21 in the Ruth Lilly Performance Hall of the Christel DeHaan Fine Arts Center. Following this meeting, students staying on campus will check in to their dorm rooms and enjoy a pizza party.
Mission Statement
The Jazz Combo Camp provides an opportunity for student musicians
to perform in small group settings with other interested student
musicians (any age) under the direction of professional jazz musicians.
Jazz Combo Camp musicians will learn the techniques of improvisation
and performance in small combos.
Admission
Participation in the Jazz Combo Camp is open to instrumentalists junior high school to adult.
Admission is based on the application and desire of
the students to learn. Student ensembles already in existence
are encouraged to apply as a group.
Curriculum
Students will be assigned to one of the combos based on experience.
Additionally, master classes, improvisation classes, listening
classes, and combo rehearsals will meet daily. There will be nightly
concerts by professional jazz musicians.
Schedule of Events
A typical day at the Jazz Combo Camp will include all of the following:
master classes, improvisation classes, listening classes, and
combo rehearsals. A final concert will be given at 2:00 pm on
Friday in the Ruth Lilly Performance Hall at the Christel DeHaan
Fine Arts Center and will feature the participating ensembles.

Campus Accommodations
Jazz Combo Camp participants are encouraged to reside on campus.
Housing consists of double rooms in an air-conditioned University
residence hall.
