Alexander Lapins
Alexander Lapins is an active freelance musician and educator.
A member of the Columbus Brass Quintet and a first call
Indianapolis studio musician, he is principal tuba of the
Terre Haute Symphony and the Columbus Indiana Philharmonic,
and Interim principal tuba of the Lafayette Symphony. He
has performed with Harvey Phillips' Tubacompany, the Indianapolis,
Cincinnati, and Chicago Symphony Orchestras, and the Indianapolis
Chamber Orchestra. He was the 2004 tuba fellow at the Tanglewood
Music Center, and was invited in 2007 to perform with the
Spoleto Festival Orchestra in Greece. Additional performances
have included those with the Sunflower Chamber Music Festival,
the Henry Mancini Institute, the Rome Festival, AIMS, and
the Disney Collegiate All-Star Band.
Currently also an instructor at Indiana State University, Mr. Lapins held similar positions at Indiana University, the Detroit Civic Orchestra, the University of Michigan All-State Program at Interlochen, and the French Woods Festival in the Catskills. He holds degrees from James Madison University (BM) and the University of Michigan (MM), and he has completed course work for a DM at Indiana University, where he was teaching assistant to the renowned pedagogue Daniel Perantoni. Mr. Lapins currently lives in Indianapolis where he enjoys gardening, reading, biking, and photography.
