Larry Powell

Larry Powell

Larry Powell is an active orchestra and freelance trumpet player. He serves as Principal Trumpet with Owensboro Symphony Orchestra, Marion Philharmonic, and Anderson Symphony Orchestra where he is also the Personnel Manager. He is also performs frequently with the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra, Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, Fort Wayne Philharmonic, South Bend Symphony, Evansville Philharmonic and Orchestra Kentucky.

He is also busy as a session player in the recording studios in Indianapolis and Fort Wayne. He has performed with artists including Wayne Newton, Sandy Patti, Bill & Gloria Gaither, Leann Rimes, Twila Paris, James Galway, Andre Watts, STYX, the Beach Boys, Allen Vizzutti, Amy Grant, Ronnie Milsap, and Peter Frampton, and under the batons of esteemed conductors such as Raymond Leppard, Mario Venzago, Jack Everly and Eric Kunzel.

Mr. Powell is also on the brass faculty at the University of Indianapolis where he teaches applied trumpet and coaches various student chamber music ensembles.

He also owns and manages Powell Music, a company that contracts musicians for corporate and private events, churches and provides summer music camp opportunities for all ages and abilities of trumpet players.

Mr. Powell received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Indianapolis in K-12 All Area Music Education and a Master of Music degree from Butler University in Trumpet Performance. Major instructors have been Vincent DiMartino, Bob Wood, Marvin Perry, Jared Rodin and Roger Ingram.

Larry is a Hammond Design (HD) Performing Artist and plays exclusively on HD mouthpieces.
