Roy Samuelsen

Roy Samuelsen In his nearly fifty year career Samuelsen has sung over one hundred opera and oratorio roles throughout the United States and the world. He has performed leading roles with the Indiana University Opera Theater, the New York City, Dallas, Boston Lyric, Utah, Kansas City Lyric, Kentucky, and Indianapolis Opera Companies, among others. He has performed concerts and oratorios with many orchestras throughout the world and specializes in Grieg and other Scandinavian masters along with the standard recital repertoire.

Samuelsen retired in 1997 from Indiana University after 34 years as artist teacher in the School of Music, where he was known for his many opera and concert performances and also his nineteen years as the Stars Spangled Banner singer for the home basketball games. He is currently serving on the faculty of University of Indianapolis as Distinguished Visiting Professor.

He and his wife of fifty years have three children and thirteen grandchildren. He also enjoys his many volunteer callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints as well as his life long hobby of photography and working in his workshop.
