The UIndy Jazz Festival is part of Jazz Week (below)
Bands will be heard for adjudication and clinics from 12 pm to 5 pm Friday and 8 am to 3 pm Saturday, Feb. 27 and 28. All students receive free admission to the concert on the night of their participation. 2 tickets will be supplied for directors.

Jazz Week 2009
UIndy’s second annual Jazz Week, which features prominent combos and big bands of local, regional, and national renown. In addition to concerts, the week features the UIndy Jazz Festival, an annual event in which area high school jazz bands have a chance to perform and be critiqued by local pros. Concerts begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Christel DeHaan Fine Arts Center's Ruth Lilly Performance Hall. The Tuesday, Feb. 24 concert is free. Wednesday through Saturday concerts are $20.00 for adults, $10.00 for seniors (65 or older) and free for kids 18 and under and for students.

Tenor saxophonist Rich Perry joins UIndy’s own big band for an exciting evening of jazz.

Tenor saxophonist Rich Perry, a fixture on the New York City jazz scene since the 1970s, makes a return trip to UIndy.
February 26 - Steve Allee Big Band
Among pianist and composer Steve Allee’s many accomplishments is a Grammy nomination for the big band album Downtown Blues, which included famed drummer John Von Ohlen.
February 27 - Blue Wisp Big Band
Formed nearly 30 years ago by drum legend and Indianapolis native John Von Ohlen, the Cincinnati-based Blue Wisp Big Band performs a variety of hard bop-oriented jazz.
February 28 - United Trombone Summit
Four world-class trombonists, Slide Hampton, Steve Turre, Curtis Fuller and Bill Watrous team up for this exciting event.
February 28 - UIndy Jazz Festival - Afternoon
Top public school jazz bands perform and learn from local pros during this annual festival.

Jazz Artist Series
This is the first year for the jazz series. The series will celebrate the riches of jazz performers in Indianapolis and the Midwest on various Wednesday nights. Presentations will include discussions with the performers. In the informal setting of room 115 of the Christel DaHaan Fine Arts Center, you will hear great music and have the opportunity to speak with the performers.
